The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force's recommendation is as follows:
Women age 40 or older should have a screening mammogram, with or without clinical breast examination, every 1 to 2 years. The American Cancer Society says age alone is no reason to stop or be screened less often: Unless a woman has severe functional limitations or multiple or severe comorbid conditions, she should be tested each year as long as her life expectancy is greater than 5 years.
